What is dancing with desire?
Sexual energy is most juicy and potent when it flows, when it moves like water.
Sinuous, deep, sparkling.
It’s a current that can pull you under, leave you gasping for air, slake your thirst and fill you to the point of overflowing.
When we are dancing with desire, we are being gifted an opportunity to set ourselves, and our sensual energy, free.
We speak with our movements, every step telegraphs a story about how we are feeling and experiencing life in that moment.
What a delicious way to experience our primal, sensual, playful and passionate selves.
Alive, breathing, sweating, glowing.
Shaking, rolling, rippling and spinning.
A masterpiece of flesh and spirit in motion.
Dancing with desire is free.
You can dance in the kitchen while your coffee steeps, or in the living room while the world is sleeping with your headphones on.
You can dance in circle with your friends or alone in the soft green grass.
Sometimes we want to move and unlock our bodies so desperately, but our energy feels frozen inside of ourselves.
I felt that way for many years, and it broke my heart.
There were energetic blockages, frozen limiting beliefs and self judgements inhibiting my flow.
I remember being in circle with my women friends, during an ecstatic dance workshop a few years ago. I watched them dancing and moving with such beauty and grace, and I felt so heavy and stuck energetically.
Eventually I left the lodge where the others were dancing and sat by myself in the grass and cried.
I cried for the parts of me that didn’t feel good enough to move like they did.
I ached and grieved for the years I had spent frozen inside of my body.
I held myself with profound tenderness and unconditional love as I allowed the energies that had once been constricted and stuck to begin moving inside of me.
In hindsight, I can see clearly how that moment of emotional release spent sitting in the grass was one of the pivotal shifts in my life when it came to reclaiming my right to joyful movement.
The shift from inhibited and bound to unlocked and free flowing didn’t happen all at once, but continued to build and cascade inside of me as a result of the next few years of self healing work.
I can still remember the moment I felt the dam finally burst inside of me.
It was during a workshop that combined acupuncture to release the congested and stuck energies with group ecstatic dance afterwards to really move and course that flowing prana through our bodies.
If you are seeking to experience more freedom of movement and self expression in your body, I encourage you to find a local group to circle and dance with, too.
If group work isn’t accessible or practical for you right now, do not underestimate the sheer joy of moving your body how and when you feel like it in the comfort of your own home.
There is tremendous liberation to be found in holding ourselves in complete acceptance while we explore movement.
When we are dancing with desire, we are embodying joy.
Such a delicious intention, isn’t it?
To embody joy.
I’ll meet you there.
In pleasure and joy,
